The spoon-billed sandpiper, one of the world‟s most critically endangered bird species, has fewer than 150 pairs globally. In each spring and autumn, around 100 pairs appear in the Xiaoyangkou area, earning it the title of “Hometown of the Spoon-billed Sandpiper”. The spoon-billed sandpiper primarily feeds on insects, insect larvae, crustaceans, and other small invertebrates. They are often seen foraging alone in shallow waters along the shore or in soft muddy areas. When walking, they keep their heads lowered and continuously probe their beaks into the water or mud, which allows them to search for food while moving.
